1. What is Commission Clarity?
Commission Clarity is a tool for calculating and monitoring commissions for insurance advisors. Based on your rules, it calculates expected commissions and compares them with actual received amounts. All data is read directly from your Google Sheets documents.
2. Initial Setup
Before you begin, complete three steps:
- Connect your Google account – on the Settings page, click "Connect Google Sheets". This grants the app read access to your spreadsheets.
- Prepare your spreadsheets – download templates from the Settings page (File → Make a copy in Google Sheets). You need:
- Insurance Policies – all active policies with client data, premiums, duration, etc.
- Paid Commissions – a separate table for each year with actual received commissions.
- Commission Rules – a table where the app automatically saves your rules. Find the template in Settings.
- Connect your spreadsheets – on the Settings page, paste the URL or ID of each spreadsheet and link it to the appropriate category.
3. Commission Rules
On the Commission Rules page, define how each insurer pays commissions. For each rule, set:
- Insurer – insurer name (your insurance provider).
- Product (optional) – if the insurer has different rules for different products.
- Calculation method – "Expected premium" (% of annual premium) or "Monthly premium" (number of monthly premiums).
- Advisor share – your personal commission share (e.g. 50%).
- Total % – full commission percentage or number of monthly premiums.
- Payout duration – in how many months the commission is paid.
- Payout schedule – monthly distribution (advance in month 1, then regular installments).
- Lock-in period – period during which the policy must be maintained, otherwise a refund applies.
- Tolerance – allowed deviation (in EUR) between expected and actual commission.
💡 Tip: If you change the advisor share or payout schedule, the app creates a new version of the rule. The old rule continues to apply to existing policies, while the new one applies to future policies.
4. Dashboard and Policy Review
The Dashboard shows a summary: total expected and received commissions, number of policies, and any discrepancies. Color-coded cards quickly highlight issues.
The Policies page shows detailed data for each policy: expected and actual commission by month, status (correct, discrepancy, missing data), and the ability to manually change status or add comments.
5. Realization and Unmatched Commissions
The Realization page shows a monthly overview of received commissions compared to expected ones. Use it to track whether payments align with the rules.
Unmatched Commissions are amounts detected in the paid commissions table that couldn't be matched to any policy. Check whether it's a data error or a commission without an entered policy.
⚠️ Important: Cancelled policies
When a policy is cancelled, you must manually set its status to "Cancelled" in the app (on the Policies page, click on the policy and change the status). The app will then exclude this policy from error calculations and will no longer show it as unpaid.
If you don't mark a cancelled policy, the app will continue treating it as an active policy with missing payments, causing incorrect data on the dashboard.
6. Safe Mode
Safe Mode shows only aggregate data without client names or policy numbers. Use it when sharing your screen or presenting data in the presence of third parties.
7. Common Issues and Solutions
